Description

This simple apparatus from United Scientific demonstrates the properties and behaviors of light and sound in a near vacuum. The vacuum jar has a cushioned bottom that holds a buzzer with blinking LED lights. As air is removed from the jar using a vacuum pump (not included), observers will be able to easily see the blinking lights, but will notice that the sound from the buzzer decreases. This shows that sound needs a medium to travel through, while light does not. This handy device can also serve as a small vacuum jar for other experiments when the buzzer unit is removed. Includes activity guide. This experiment requires 4 AAA batteries and a vacuum pump, which are not included.
