It offers resistance to acids and alkalis except for hydrofluoric acid. Glaze softening does not take place till 1000 deg C. The average coefficient of expansion from 20 – 200 deg C is 3.56 x 10^-5 with a gradual increase to 4.69 x 10^-5 at 1050 deg C to offer thermal shock resistance.
